Lazar’s Pećina Cave is located on the left bank of Lazar’s River at the very exit from the uniquely beautiful Lazar’s Canyon. The source of Lazar’s River lies 6,7 meters below the entrance into the Lazar’s Pećina Cave. Lazareva Pećina Cave: L=1,592m, T=9-12°C, H=100%. Verknjica Pećina Cave: L=1,530m, T=3-9°C, H=100%. In the case of Zlotske Pecine Caves the plural is earned by the fact that there are two different caves connected by footpaths cut into the cliffs. They are called Lazareva Pecina Cave (Lazar’s Cave) and Vernjikica Pecina Cave. Vernjikica Cave is located on the left side of the Lazareva Reka River canyon, about 1.5 km upstream from Lazar Cave. Lazareva Pecina Cave /Lazar’s Cave /has two different levels, the upper level is toured. The lower level contains the underground Lazar River. The tour through Vernjikica Pecina Cave shows eleven chambers housing fantastic stalagmite shapes /men, animals, flowers and a complete cave family from grandmother to a dog/. Lazar’s pecina Cave is favorite habitat for bats and twenty two bat species are found there. Lazar’s pecina Cave is surrounded by beautiful nature and the exit of the Lazar’s Canyon. Lazar’s pecina Cave was inhabited in prehistorical era which is evidenced by firesides, cottages and work areas and also by objects as weapons and tools and jewelry and pottery made of stone, soil and copper. Lazar’s Pecina Cave went through different historic periods. Copper era /IV – III millennium B.C/ when it was significant hunting habitat. The old iron age /the first half of the II millennium B.C./ when it was significant metallurgical center which is associated with molten objects of iron and bronze and the Bronze era.
