The Vrbica Winery with the famous Tarpoš Restaurant is situated on top of a little hill in vineyards above town of Aranđelovac, on the road between historic sites of Orašac and Oplenac in Topola, in the well-known Shumadija wine region. More than 150 years ago, the slopes of Venčac, Orašac and Vrbica hills were covered with vineyards. According to the records from 1859, Vrbica area had 84 hectares under vineyards. Fifty years later the famous Venčac wine-growing cooperative was founded, as the unique wine-producers organization in the Balkans that had been between two world wars introduced as producer of sparkling wines. These were very good times for grape growers and winemakers in Vrbica village of Arandjelovac. Even Eleanor Roosevelt visited the cellars there and tried the famous wine of the region at the time. Unfortunately, the prosperous times of Vrbica wine area ended and decades of decay began, when it fell into oblivion. In 2003 on the same slopes new vineyards sprung up, and now as the Tarpos Winery continued its long and successful tradition of grape growing and wine making. Today the Tarpos Winery possesses a dozen hectares of vineyards and successfully runs the production of fifty thousand liters of wine per year. High quality wine varieties of white and red grapes came originally from France. Representatives of red grape varieties grown in the vineyards of the Tarpos Winery are Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, while the white grape varieties are Riesling Rhine, Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay.
The wonderfully appointed authentic Shumadija architecture is successfully combined with lots of modern elements and resulted in the Tarpoš Restaurant. This pleasant restaurant is set in the middle of tha vast Tarpos vineyards and features an open terrace which provides the amazing view of the hilly authentic Šumadija landscape. The expression of “tarpoš” designated an old woman cap which was used for wine drinking, from which young girls offered wines and grapes to young fellows. Full capacity of the Tarpos wine restaurant is 180 seats of which 120 seats are inside and 60 seats on porches and the open terrace. Along the rich choice of best Tarpos wines, the prestigious restaurant serves the great selection of the finest Serbian gourmet food, as well as the international food, prepared to perfection, and well-paired with the high quality wines. Here our guests enjoy in the recommended menu which they find as the super-perfect : the Tarpos starter – grilled dried plums filled with cheese and coated with bacon, goat cheese rolls, roasted peppers /or zucchini/ with smoked ham, Shumadija kaymak, goat cheese from rosemary oil, fig stuffed with Gorgonzola cheese, smoked Njegushi ham, smoked beef, melon with smoked ham, buck-wheat rolls with goat cheese and aromatic herbs, conserved grapes; Vineyard pie – dried plums, nuts, raisins and wild cranberry. Wines served along such food are : Lipar Sauvignon /or Rhine Riesling/, Menuet Chardonnay, Tarpos Merlot, Orasac Cabernet and Tarpos Rose wines, water, homemade bread and corn bread, lettuce and cherry tomato with Parmigiana cheese….
