Saint Nicholas Monastery in Orahovo dates from the time of the historical Nemanjic Dynasty, when Saint Sava Nemanjic (Sveti Sava Nemanjić) sent the Zeta bishop Ilarion to build monasteries in the Crmnica area, in Brceli, Orahovo and Njegalica villages. Monastery of Saint Nicholas was built in 1233, but in the 15th century Ottomans destroyed it, and had been restored by Jelena Balsic. Fresco-script in this monastery dates from the 17th century, and some frescoes were copy-painted for exhibition in Paris in 1955. There are 2 unique frescoes of the St Nicholas Monastery in Orahovo, which visitors can find only in this religious object and nowhere else in world.
Vranac is the autochthonous Montenegrin variety of grapes and the well-known brand of wine, and since 1977 protected as an intellectual property and Montenegrin geographical indication of origin. Vranac grape variety has also been adopted in neighboring countries like Republic of Macedonia and Serbia, but under different-similar name. Vranac is considered the most important variety of grape in Montenegro and Crmnica wine. The Crmnicki Vranac is top-level dry red wine of dark red color with purple tones, produced from selected Vranac grape variety from Montenegro. Vranac wine is best paired with all red meat, spiced and greased, wild game dishes, fish, smoked ham and fat cheese….
