Serbian Medieval Monasteries

Day 1 BELGRADE-NOVI SAD
Arrival to Belgrade Airport and welcome by PANACOMP professional guide and transfer to Novi Sad. /depending on flight schedule possible visit to one or few of the Fruska Gora Monasteries/. Walking tour of Novi Sad downtown : City Hall, Cathedral, Assembly of Vojvodina, pedestrian and shopping zone with restaurants and coffee shops… Drive to Petrovaradin Fortress, called the “Gibraltar on the Danube”, thanks to its strategic position on the cliff above the Danube. Dinner in traditional restaurant with beautiful view to Danube River. Hotel accommodation. Overnight.

Day 2 FRUSKA GORA MONASTERIES – BELGRADE
After breakfast full day tour to Fruska Gora National Park, the former Pannonean Sea. Visit to Krusedol and Grgeteg Monasteries, the best preserved amongst seventeen Medieval Monasteries in Fruska Gora. Traditional lunch at “Perkov salas” /Perko’s Farm/. Drive on along beautiful slopes of Fruska Gora Mountain to Sremski Karlovci and tour of picturesque baroque cetner of the cultural center of Serbs : Bishop’s Residence, “The Four Lions Fountain”, St. Nichola’s Orthodox Church, Gymnasium. Honey Museum visit with honey and delicious wines tasting in authentic wine cellar. Drive to Belgrade. Hotel Accommodation. Dinner in traditional restaurant. Overnight.

Day 3 MANASIJA MONASTERY – RAVANICA MONASTERY – LAZARICA CHURCH – KALENIC MONASTERY
After breakfast drive to Manasija Monastery and visit. Drive to Ravanica Monastery, 15th century, one of the best examples of the Morava Architecture school where the Holy relics of Saint Prince Lazar are kept. Sightseeing. Continue to Krusevac and touring the Lazarica Church, 15th century. Big traditional lunch. Drive to Kalenic Monastery, the best example of “Morava” Medieval School of Architecture /14th and 15th century/ and sightseeing. Accommodation in Kalenic Monastery dormitory. Monastic or traditional dinner. Overnight. /special regime of behavior/.

Day 4 LJUBOSTINJA MONASTERY – ZICA MONASTERY – STUDENICA MONASTERY
After breakfast sightseeing of Ljubostinja Monastery, 15th century, where Prince Lazar and Princess Milica met and fall in love. Continue to Kraljevo and tour of Zica Monastery, 13th century, where 7 Serbian Medieval Kings were crowned. Continue along the beautiful Ibar River Gorge and stop over by the Maglic Medieval Fortress. Big traditional lunch /beef backed in ceramic pot/ and photoshooting. Continue to Studenica Monastery, the most prominent Serbian Monastery and accommodation in Monastery Dormitory. Sightseeing of the Studenica Monastery Medieval complex. Monastic or traditional dinner with “Nemanjic Dynasty Evening” (costumed performance of Serbian Medieval cultural heritage with Medieval music instruments), overnight.

Day 5 STARA PAVLICA – NOVA PAVLICA – SS APOSTLES CHURCH RAS – DJURDJEVI STUPOVI – SOPOCANI MONASTERY
After breakfast drive along the picturesque Ibar River Gorge to Stara Pavlica Church and Nova Pavlica Monastery and sightseeing. Drive on to Gradac Monastery, the Queen Helen of Anjou endowment. Lunch en route. Drive on via Raška to Novi Pazar and tour of the SS Peters’ and Paul Church, the oldest Christian church in the Balkans featuring interesting Byzantine architecture. Sightseeing of Djurdjevi Stupovi – St George’s Pillars Monastery, dominating over the town from the woody hill. Visit to the Ras Museum with impressive ethnographic exhibits. Drive on to Sopocani Monastery, UNESCO Heritage site and tour of St Trinity Church. Drive back to Studenica Monastery. Dinner. Overnight.

Day 6 PRIDVORICA MONASTERY – ST ACHILLES CHURCH – ST NICHOLAS MONASTERY – DIVCIBARE MOUNTAIN RESORT
After breakfast drive along the intact nature of the Studenica-Golija Biosphere Reserve, UNESCO Natural Heritage Site and via Pridvorica Monastery to Arilje and tour of the Saint Achilles Church, 13th century. Continue to Ovcar-Kablar Gorge/Park of Nature, known for its preserved nature and 10 Medieval Monasteries scattered along the left bank of the beautiful Zapadna Morava River. Break for lunch in the restaurant on the river bank of in the Nikolje – Saint Nicholas Monastery. Drive to Divcibare Mountain tourist resort. Hotel accommodation. Dinner. Overnight.

Day 7 CELIJE MONASTERY – BELGRADE
After breakfast drive along the picturesque landscape of Maljen and Povlen Mountain. Visit to Celije Monastery, endowment of King Dragutin Nemanjic, built in the 13th century. Drive on via Ibar road to Belgrade. Lunch en route. Belgrade sightseeing tour : Saint Sava Orthodox cathedral /the second largest Orthodox church in the world/, Republic Square, Kalemegdan Fortress ….. Visit to the Icon workshop and presentation of frescoes and icon hand painting by the fresco-icon artists or visit to the Museum of the Serbian Orthodox Church or the Fresco Gallery. Hotel accommodation. Farewell “Serbian evening” dinner. Overnight.

Day 8 BELGRADE – DEPARTURE
After breakfast free time until transfer to Belgrade Airport. Departure flight and end of program.
