SS Apostles Peter and Paul Church Rsovci village

Surely one of the most interesting shrines of Pirot and Stara Planina Mountain is the church of Saint Peter and Paul which was probably built by hermits from Sinai who stayed here in the 13th century. The Church of Saint Apostles Peter and Pault, built in steep side of the rock of Kamik Hill on the right side of Visocica River by the village of Rsovci, 22 km away from Pirot is also known as the cave church. Rsovci is a village in South-eastern Serbia, 22 km away from Pirot. The 13th century Pecinska crkva /Cave Church/ is the Serbian Orthodox cave-church dedicated to St Peter and Paul in the gorges of Kamik with a unique fresco of Young Jesus popularly called the Bald Jesus “Ćelavi Isus”. The Cave Church of Saint apostles Peter and Paul with unique fresco on its northern wall was probably painted by hermits who lived away from the spot of that time church authorities support the scholars assumption that the necropolis was established on that specific place in the 13th century. Until the recent 10 years the church was deserted and in pity conditions to be restored by efforts of church authorities and scientists as well as local population when the belfry was built and the entrance was strengthened with the entrance door. You get to the cave church by pleasant walk along the stony path. The church itself is part of the massive cliff which comprises the church door and two tiny windows.

Rsovci village is one of the upper Visocka villages in foot of Stara Planina Mountain on the left bank of Visočica River, 23 km east of Pirot. In the proximity of the village there are several interesting places among which of special interest are the following : place called Bele Vode /White waters/ from where the water sources and fell over the height of 50 meters into the River of Visočica, then the Visoka Stena place which is the highest point on Vidlic Mountain where eagles nest and from where Sun first rises in the morning and which first receives the snow cover. In the area of Rsovci village there is the black pine tree which is under protection of Republic of Serbia and represents another Monument of Nature of this region of Serbia.
