Prcanj got its present-day appearance during the 16th, the 17th and the 18th century of the Venetian rule. Construction of the church started in 1789, when the town flourished, and was completed only in 1913. The maritime captain Ivo Vizin (1806-1868) from Prčanj was the first south Slavic seafarer who sailed around the world with his ship „Splendido”. Among the oldest monuments of culture of Prcanj are the Church of St Tomas – Svetog Tome, in the upper part of the settlement, from the 9th century, which is nowadays in ruins, and the Church of Saint John – Svetog Ivana, built in 1221. The special tourist attraction is the „tre sorrelle“ Palace, the unique structure from the 15th century. It was property of the noble Kotor family of Buća. There is the “tre sorrelle” – three sisters legend about the unfortunate love of three sisters who loved the same sailor. The scenic Bay of Kotor itself has been a beacon of inspiration for generations of artists and poets – now the region is becoming internationally recognized as one of Montenegro’s principal attractions and cultural treasures. Prcanj is also known as a curative destination – an air spa and the natural climatic health resort, thanks to its lavish Mediterranean vegetation and uniquely clean and fresh air. Perast, Risan and Prcanj come protected as natural and cultural – historical heritage of the extended area of the historic center of Kotor and as such entered the UNESCO’s list of World Heritage sites.
