Departure
Day 1 : Arrival to Belgrade, transfer to hotel. Dinner and overnight in a 5- or 4-star hotel.
Day 2 : A full day of sightseeing in Belgrade, including visit to the Museum of Yugoslav History. Dinner and folklore show in typical restaurant. Overnight.
Day 3 : Full-day excursion into Vojvodina, including Novi Sad sightseeing, rustic farm house lunch and wine tasting in Sremski Karlovci. Return to Belgrade, free evening, overnight.
Day 4 : (250km) Departure from Belgrade after breakfast. Drive eastward along the Danube River to the Roman Viminacium, the Golubac Fortress and the important Neolithic site of Lepenski Vir. Into Djerdap National Park (featured on UNESCO’s tentative list of World Heritage Sites) and its spectacular canyon, known as the Iron Gate, featuring 300-m high cliffs. Dinner and overnight in 4 stars hotel in the town of Kladovo, a border fortress on the Danube since the time of Roman Emperor Trajan. /Wellness available/.
Day 5 : (55+65+150= 270km) Departure for Negotin and visit to the Rajac Wineries, also on the UNESCO tentative list. Wine tasting and traditional lunch. On to Gamzigrad, the fortified palace of Emperor Galerius of late Roman Empire, another UNESCO site. Dinner and overnight in 4 stars hotel in Vrnjacka Banja Spa.
Day 6 : (80+45+20=145 km) Today we visit two UNESCO World Heritage Sites of the Studenica and Sopocani Monasteries, the “largest and richest of Serbia’s Orthodox monasteries,” with fine Byzantine paintings; Sopocani is part of Stari Ras, Serbia’s first capital, a cluster of medieval fortifications and churches. Late afternoon arrival in the town of Novi Pazar in the multicultural area inhabited by Christians as well as Muslims, as reflected in buildings like the Church of the SS Apostles Peter and Paul and the Altun-Alem Mosque. Dinner and overnight in 3+ stars hotel in Novi Pazar.
Day 7 : (105 km) After breakfast drive to Mileseva, another Serbian Orthodox Medieval Monastery, whose famous frescoes include the wonderful “White Angel”. Visit to Uvac Special Nature Reserve, the largest natural habitat of griffin vultures in the Balkans with boat ride and big outdoor barbecue lunch within the gorgeous intact nature. Dinner and overnight in the 4 stars hotel in Sjenica, close to the border in Montenegro.
Day 8 : Today we cross into Montenegro and drive through the mountainous interior of Montenegro to the Ostrog Monastery, a popular center of pilgrimage, spectacularly nestled in a cave high on the face rocky cliff rising almost vertically from the plain below. Day 9 : Today after breakfast, invigorating short walk along the gorgeous Biogradska gora lake, and continue to Budva on the Adriatic Coast (115km). En route, short visit to Podgorica (formerly Titograd), Montenegro’s capital, and scenic drive along the shores of the Skadar lake/NP, the largest lake in the Balkan Peninsula, situated on the border with Albania. Reaching the Adriatic Sea, we soon arrive at our 4- or 5-star resort hotel in Becici area. Half board accommodation for 4 nights.
Day 10 : Morning visit to the old town of Budva, followed by a side-trip to Sveti Stefan.
Day 11 : After breakfast full day excursion to old town of Kotor (UNESCO site). Boat tour in Kotor Bay to the Holy Virgin on the Rocks Church, and return via Cetinje. Traditional brunch – tasty homemade smoked ham, cheese and olives. Overnight.
Day 12 : Free day. Optional excursion to Dubrovnik or Tour of the Njegos Mausoleum on the top of the Lovcen Mountain /National Park.
Day 13 : Departure after breakfast. Cross back into Serbia and drive via a scenic route to Cacak /Central Serbia/, with break for refreshment. Hotel accommodation. Farewell dinner a typical restaurant with brass orchestra performance /Winners of the Guca Brass Festival/.
Day 14 : After breakfast, transfer to Belgrade Airport in time for the departure of return flight back home. End of program and services.
