Prijepolje Museum
Museum in Prijepolje has been officially opened in 1991, when its constant collections were put on display. The Homeland collection of the Prijepolje Museum was formed in 1956, and was periodically presented in public since that time. Museum in Prijepolje is located in the fully restored structure of the former Turkish high school of Ruždija, built between 1839 and 1845. Prijepolje Museum is nowadays a rich treasury of the cultural and historical heritage of the Lim River area. Museum contains Archaeological, Historical, Historical-artistic and Ethnographic collections. The Archaeological Collection of the Museum is the most precious, and contains exhibits and artifacts from the Roman town of Kolovrat Municipium 2nd-4th century, as well as from the Medieval Mileševa Monastery. The Ethnographic collection presents rich traditions of the Prijepolje region, in various samples of rugs, traditional costumes, tools, plates, vessels, and other ethnographic items of the area. Historical and historical-artistic collections of the Museum also display artifacts of the region. The Ethnographic collection of the Prijepolje Museum is most comprehensive, while the Historical-artistic collection is enriched with artifacts from various exhibitions, presents and by redemption. In Prijepolje Museum there is the constant exhibition dedicated to the famous basket ball player Vlade Divac, who was born in Prijepolje, with all items that traced his career, starting from the beginning with Elan to Charlotte, where Divac ended his professional career. Here are exhibited numerous medals, dresses, photos, interviews of Vlade Divac sportmen and friends… The exhibition of Vlade Divac is very worth visiting, as visitor can observe various information of this great man and sportsman….
Prijepolje Museum also comprises gallery exhibiting space, convenient for various thematic exhibitions and other issues. Prijepolje Museum features the status of the regional museum institution of the territories of Prijepolje and Priboj Municipalities. Prijepolje Museum is actively engaged in various cultural and social activities and national and international projects, that enhance inter cultural dialog and support multi-ethnic relationship. The main event of the European Heritage Day of Serbia Manifestation has been held in the Prijepolje Museum. „Most essential accomplishments of the Prijepolje Museum are successfully completed projects of reconstructions of the Medieval Monasteries along the Lim River Valley, preservation of the Monuments of Islam culture and openness towards various multicultural activities”, add Slavoljub Pušica, Director of Prijepolje Museum. Museum is the first museum institution in Serbia and countries of the Balkan region that has been nominated for the European Museum of the Year Prize.
