National Museum Vranje

The National Museum Vranje is located in the old structure of Selamluk /portion of an Ottoman palace or house reserved for men/- one of the structures of the Pasha’s Mansions. The Museum plateau is open and feature benches aimed for relaxation of visitors likewise in most of global museum in the world, from where spreads lovely view to the Museum. This is contrary to the plateaus of some museums in the south-east of Serbia, in front of this Museum is clear that private issues of some individuals are not put before the common interests, ….. like somewhere….

The National Museum Vranje is positioned in the building of salemluk of the Pasha’s mansions, constructed in 1765 and it contains surface of 400 sq meters of exhibition space with some 30 000 museum items and artifacts of Ethnology, Archaeology, Art History and Cultural History.

The Permanent Exhibition of the National Museum in Vranje represents the appearance of the urban house of Vranje from the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century, focusing on the design, furnishings, and arrangement of the house and the organisation of residential space. It is complemented by household objects, crafts, utensils, and textile furnishings from that period that were used in households. Various types of exceptional urban and rural costumes and jewellery from the mid-19th century to the 1930s and 1940s of the traditional culture of the Vranje Pomoravlje and Pčinja Districts give a special impression to the exhibition, showcasing their beauty and undeniable artistic and aesthetic value, bearing witness to the spirit of the era, time, and space in which they originated.

The Borina Kuca Exhibition – Birth House of writer Bora Stankovic describes the rich book corner of the famous writer, featuring some of the oldest editions of his works and personal belongings of the author: his work chair, tobacco box, writing desk, and documents regarding the ownership of the house. A part of the exhibition relates to the life of his family, so a segment of the house is arranged as an authentic ambiance of that time. In 1969, Ivo Andrić visited the birth house of Bora Stanković and on that occasion, he wrote the following in the guestbook: “Satisfied to have seen it.“
