Muslibegovic House National Monument Mostar
The National Monument of the Muslibegovic House is the unique historical establishment in Mostar built 300 years ago, which is today part museum and part hotel, within 2 minutes walking distance to the Old Mostar bridge and the Karajoz-bey Mosque of Mostar. Of the original building Muslibegovic complex from the 17th century, which at that time contained several houses and a mosque, only two separate structures remained until the present – the main building and the summer house. The Muslibegovics represent a noble lineage in Herzegovina, where its members were governors for many centuries. Members of this noble family established themselves in Mostar at the end of the 17th century following the fall of Herceg-Novi the to the Venetians in 1687. At that time, the Muslibegovics owned properties all over Herzegovina /the southern portion of today’s Bosnia Herzegovina/ and continued to exert substantial influence over social and political affairs in the region. The original building permit for this House is still kept along with many other precious books written in Turkish, Persian, and Arabic. Here can be seen examples of Bosnian hand work, such as handkerchiefs, waistbands, napkins, purses, bed covers, socks, and hamam sets. Anatolian kilims /rugs/ are hung on the walls. One of the rooms which dates from the 18th century, is fully furnished with a decorated ceiling, shelves, an oven, cupboards, a sofa, flooring, a lamp and a mirror etc. Numerous manuscripts, books and and letters from the Ottoman period, medals and medallions, examples of the writing of famous Ottoman calligraphers are exhibited here.
