Maradik Ethno House Maradik
Maradik is a tiny village on the gentle slopes of Fruska Gora Mountain, about 55 km north of Belgrade and some 25 south of Novi Sad, surrounded with beautiful tiny lakes and nature of the Fruska Gora National Park with numerous Medieval Monasteries. One of Maradik’s most famous tourist attractions is the Maradik Ethno House which contains very interesting private collection of rustic premises and authentic agricultural tools and objects evoking past times. Various objects between 50 and 200 years old are exhibited in the 150 years old Maradik house situated in the tranquil ambiance that represents the original lifestyle of Vojvodina inhabitants, where visitors can find out about well-preserved tradition, culture, customs and the way of life of people who have lived in this area of Serbia. The house has been built out of load and contains rooms that were necessary for a single household life (bedrooms, kitchen, basement, storage room, barns and stables…). In the front yard full of greenery and flowers there is an old village coaches, a sleigh, a plow etc. In the back of the Maradik Traditional House yard there are fruit trees typical for Fruska Gora Mountain of which delicious homemade brandies are produced – apple, plum and grape brandies /rakijas/. After exploring the rustic collection visitors are offered to participate in various seasonal works – gardening, cooking or melting the bacon for famous “cvarci” /cracklings/ or making sausages to be roasted or smoked. When this challenging task is successfully completed the authentic tasteful Srem dishes and desserts are served accompanied with tamburitza music (authentic starter dishes such are smoked ham, bacon and sausages and variety of traditional pork specialties as well as stew and goulash and Serbian beans and sarma prepared in traditional way, Srem cookies, doughnuts, croissants, homemade juices of mint, elder-berry, sweet and sour cherry…). Within the Ethno house there is a souvenir shop and mini ethno green market where delicious homemade products /made by the Maradik locals/ can be bought (honey, wines, brandies, season fruits, juices, jams…). Parties in Maradik lasts until the early hours…
