There are number of churches and monasteries which are worth visiting thanks to their interesting frescoes – the Virgin Mary’s Assumption Monastery, Saint Peter’s and Paul’s Monastery, “Holy Transfiguration” Church, “Holy Trinity” Church and the ruins of the Medieval Kaleto fortification. “Saint Demetrius” church is the oldest in Svishtov and features entirely preserved architecture of the 16th century. A wooden carved cross of rare artistic beauty is preserved there. An inscription could be read in old Church – slavonic language on its silver handle that gives the name of Joan Mateus – Wallach voivode and the year 1642.
