Zdanije Cupica – Salas Nocajski village

The Etno zdanije Zmaj od Noćaja – Zmaj od Noćaja traditional farm house is located on the right bank of the Sava River, in the tiny village of Salaš Noćajski, in close proximity of Mačvanska and Sremska Mitrovica, about 80 km west of Belgrade, on the highway direction Croatia. Etno zdanije traditional farm house Zmaj od Noćaja has been named after the famous duke of the First Serbian Uprising, Stojan Čupić, whose life and rebellious deeds are connected with Macva and Srem. Stojan Čupić was long and handsome duke of the First Serbian Uprising, with broad shoulders and large mustaches. Undoubtedly he was favorite duke of Karadjordje, and gained great respect as brave and eloquent man, noted as the third among the Serbian valiant leaders dangerous for Turks. During the insecure times of the First Serbian Uprising, Stojan Čupić made possible risky rebellious attempts by his braveness, honesty and rhetoric, so his human virtues were best recognized in most difficult moments, when he provided shelter at his home for Serbian refugees from Bosnia. The poet Filip Visnjic repaid this hospitality by epic songs on the courage of the Duke Stojan Čupić, which is best described in the sentence “Nor take, not leave, but give” and is even today the example of human unselfishness and indicator to be followed by his descendants. In the churchyard in the Salas Nocajski village there is the monument dedicated to this prominent Duke, while the Čupić Family nowadays carefully keep and preserve memories on their famous ancestor.
In the yard of the family house of Svetislav Čupić, three new facilities have been built in order to provide tourist services, where owner receives his guests with memorable and warm tones of accordion. All premises of the Etno zdanije Zmaj od Noćaja are built of natural materials – brick and wood, and are covered with tiles. Decorative elements and particular architectural solutions of the Etno zdanije Zmaj od Noćaja are completed in style of stylized Medieval fortified towns – towers, and the traditional rustic construction of Macva region – four-side roof, terraces, porches… In the northern part of the yard there is one-store facility with equipped very simple double room at disposal to visitors who wish to stay here. Close to it there is the atrium structure which is used to welcome and serve visitors, where Macva men and women traditional costumes are exposed, making a tiny ethnographic exhibition. Windows, tables and chairs of the interior of the Etno zdanije Zmaj od Noćaja are covered with woven and embroidered fabrics and curtains featuring motifs of this region. In the west part of the yard of the Ethno Zdanije of Cupic Family there is one-store structure, where food is prepared and served. In its basement are traditional bakery and ceramic pots and dishes, authentic elements and vessels used for food preparation in traditional rural household of Macva. In the first floor is spacious terrace where diligent hosts serve their visitors with finest authentic food and beverages of the region. This space is also used for exhibitions of artists from this part of Macva. On the second floor of the Etno zdanije Zmaj od Noćaja main structure complex there is an indoor space with exhibits and artifacts presenting life of the owner of the house. Next to it are photos, weapons and other objects connected to the Dukes of the First Serbian Uprising, as well as original lifestyle and creativity of Macva population, which successfully represent the historical and cultural inheritance. Historical importance and family bonds with the Macva’s duke, Stojan Cupic – Zmaj od Nocaja is very important so that one of the rooms is dedicated to him.
