Lisine Veliki Buk Waterfalls
The Veliki Buk – Veliko Vrelo – Lisine Waterfalls is Monument of Nature located in East Serbia, on the slopes of the Beljanica Mountain, some 20 km away of Despotovac, via tiny villages of Stenjevac, Vodna and Strmosten. The Veliki Buk Lisine Waterfalls is set close to the junction of the Vrelo river with the Resava River, surrounded with vast areas of well-preserved lush forests, water courses, river valleys, carst caves, fragrant meadows and intricate ranges of the Kucaj Mountains, that spread up to where your eye catches. The spring with water course and the 20 meters high waterfalls of Veliki Buk in Lisine make Geo-morphological complex of picturesque beauty and scientific, educational and cultural significance, providing unique natural value of Serbia.
The name of Lisine comes from the ravine bearing the same name, created beneath the vertical carst segments of the Beljanica Mountain. The Veliko vrelo spring sources at the top of the ravine, set beneath the vertical side of the Radoseva Pecina Cave. A number of underground waters cut their way through the wonderful rocky springs. Starting from the gentle and slow river at its source, the Veliko Vrelo gets its intensity along its course. The road from the source of the Veliko Vrelo is nicely appointed and features lots of places for picnic and outdoor relaxation. Thanks to the beauty of the 20 meters high Veliki Buk Lisine Waterfalls, created by a group of strong carst springs, and the water amphitheater of the tuffacous layers vertical sides, with several water cascades and the bottom covered with large tuffa blocks and the main water beam and the lake, the Lisine Waterfalls is one of the most popular tourist destinations and the natural attractions of Serbia.

The Veliki Buk Lisine Waterfalls, set in the uniquely beautiful natural environment, make a perfect destination for enjoyment. In the past there were numerous watermills and rolling-mills on the Veliko Vrelo River, while today locals turn them into restaurants and tourist facilities, that come in good harmony with the whole ambiance. The beautiful scenery, calm and pleasant sounds of the water and tasty homemade food, contribute that Lisine Waterfalls are a real oasis for relaxation and invigoration.
In the close proximity of the Veliki Buk Lisine waterfalls there are restaurants with comfortable accommodation besides fresh flows of cold, sprinkling and clear waters. Excellent and tasty food and kind hosts, as well as calming water sounds fulfill the experience. The trout ponds are rich in mountainous river trout and make the must-taste food in almost all of the Lisine area restaurants. In this unique natural environment of East Serbia, there are several tourist and catering facilities, among which is the Lisinski raj /Lisine Paradize/ restaurant with comfortable accommodation of 8 twin rooms. At the foot of the Lisine waterfalls there is the restaurant belonging to this company set on the vast property with a large trout pond and an old stone watermill which still grinds grain and makes flour for homemade bread and corn bread, and facilities for sport fishermen. The „Lisinki raj“ Restaurant distinguishes itself by the traditional delicious food served – homemade bannock baked under the ceramic pot, Beljanica cheese and kaymak, kacamak /hominy/, corn bread, roasted Beljanica lamb, and always fresh trout. Close are Resava Pecina Cave (9km), Manasija Monastery (23km) and the Ravanica Monastery (42km).
The picturesque forested road to Ravanica Monastery leads along the Senj Coal Mines -Resavica coal mines that make the oldest active coal mine in Serbia. Only few km away from Despotovac, there the Park of Miniatures which exposes true models and well manufactured copies of the Serbian Medieval Monasteries.
