Lelić Monastery
The church of Lelić Monastery was built in 1929 in the center of Lelić village, near Valjevo, to be declared a monastery in 1997. Monastery is the endowment of Bishop Nikolaj Velimirovic and his father Dragomir. In the church of the Monastery the Bishop Nikolaj Velimirović, Orthodox theologian, philosopher and writer of the 20-th century is laid to rest. Remains of Bishop Nikolaj Velimirovic were transported from USA in 1991 when he was canonized.
Lelić Monastery is the humble church of the Morava style of architecture of Serbia, with modern architectural details. The Church of the Monastery has shape of cross with the dome over the central part. It was built of stone and bricks. In front of the Lelic church there is the high bell tower and the church residence. Lelić Monastery owns the museum of rare books and manuscripts and the chapel.
