KUD Kopaonik Leposavic

KUD – Cultural Artistic Society Kopaonik from Leposavic was founded n 1998 with the main aim or preservation the traditions and cultural identity of the Serbian people in Kosovo and Metohija.

The Kopaonik Folklore and Music Society is organized through three sections and a Workshop – the Music Section /school of violin, flute, frula pipe, accordion, piano and clarinet/, the Folklore Section /school of folk dancing, preparatory and performing ensembles/, the Singing Section /solo singing, groups of singers and mixed group/ and the Ethnic Dress Workshop.

Kopaonik Folklore and Music Society has had over 1500 public performances, seen by audience in many parts of Serbia, as well as in neighboring countries and abroad : Romania, Ukraine, Greece, Italy, Austria, Poland, Turkey, France, Spain, Belgium, Australia, Cyprus, Jordan, Tunisia, Bulgaria, Russia and Sweden. KUD Kopaonik’s repertoire includes 28 choreographed dances. So far, the Kopaonik KUD educated over 1600 members and currently has 320 members.

It is very rich row of prizes and letters of gratitude for nearly all the performances in Serbia and abroad, of which we distinguish some : several folklore festivals of culture and art societies of Serbia – 1 gold, three silver and 2 bronze medals, Belgrade Victor Prize at Sabor 2002, Grand Prix at the International festival in Ukraine, October Prize of the Municipality of Leposavic for special contribution to culture, Gold Opanak Shoe, Folklore Festival in Valjevo – 1 gold and 2 bronze opanak shoes and an recognition of mastery, reconstructions of the traditional costumes of Kosovo and Metohija and urban dresses from Pristina and Djakovica were prized for their workmanship quality, special prize for the field research in Central Kosovo.

The team of the Kopaonik Folklore and Music Society from Leposavic has been involved in the field research throughout Kosovo and Metohija, as eleven sites – Sirinicka Zupa, Sredacka Zupa, Djakovica, Velika Hoca, Orahovac, Prizren, Pec, Osojane, Vucitrn in Central Kosovo, Prisina, Kosovo Pomoravlje – Gnjilane, Ibarski Kolasin and Leposavic. The field research focused on ethnology-musicology and choreography and choreography, resulting in choreographed works, among which are songs and dances from Pec and Prizren, being recorded in cooperation with the Pristina Museum. The recordings took place at locations around the Visoki Decani Monastery, Metropolitan Residence, Pec Patriarchate, Holy Archangels Monastery, Prizren School of Theology, St George Church and Our Lady of Ljevish in Prizren.

The Kopaonik Folklore and Music Society Leposavic is committed to the preservation of the Serbian cultural heritage in the area of Old Serbia and their members liven up monastic yards with dancing and singing. KUD Kopaonik from Leposavic has its own patron saint, and the feast Day dedicated to the Holy King Milutin. Kopaonik Folklore and Music Society Leposavic ranks among the best folklore and music ensembles in Serbia. Kopaonik Folklore and Music Society Kopaonik is part of the National Register of Intangible Cultural Heritage of the Republic of Serbia as the bearer of the Kosovo Embroidery Element.
