Kriva cuprija Hotel Mostar

The Crooked Bridge – Kriva cuprija Bridge is a miniature version of the Old Bridge of Mostar, designed and built in 1558 of a single stone arch across the Neretva River, eight years before the Old Bridge. Since the old times it is known that the Kriva cuprija Bridge was a test model for the future more complex construction of the Old Bridge in Mostar, whether the bridge with such a semicircular stone arch can withstands loads. Although small, the Kriva cuprija – Crooked bridge in Mostar was of great importance, since in the lower course of the Radobolja river it was the only traffic crossing to connect the trading part of the Old town where the life of the prosperous town flourished, and further led to Herzegovina and Dalmatia. With the opening of the new roads and bridges in Mostar, the Crooked Bridge has lost its significance and sank into oblivion, because of its location deep in the river bed, with inadequate access from the both river banks. Kriva cuprija Bridge was destroyed in the great flood of 2000 and the water took it into the Neretva River. It was renovated in 2002, on the UNESCO initiative and today belongs to the protected cultural monuments of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
