Jović Winery Knjaževac
The Jović Winery in the tiny village of Potrkanje near Knjaževac /5 km/ in East Serbia is family run wine cellar of rich tradition and reputation of few generations of famous wine producers with the yearly production of some 60 000 liters of wine. All wines of the Jovic Winery are produced with lots of love from quality grapes and cherry which is carefully grown on 15 hectares of own land covered with well maintained vineyards. Vineyards of the Jović Winery are located on the sunny slopes of the Tupiznica and Stara Planina Mountains at the elevation of 250-300 meters, which along with the suitable climate, make excellent conditions for growing of white and black grape varieties. The Jović Winery is located in the famous Knjazevac wine region of Timok, close to the Timacum Minus archaeological site in the nearby Ravna village. Wines of the Jović Winery from Knjaževac are found in original form distributed in specialized shops and selected restaurants since 1995 when the wine cellar was established. Maceration is process of making wine during which tannin, anthocyanin – coloring materials and aromatic compounds from thin grape skin extract juice from which wine is made. Several various factors influence the color of white wine. Some of them are age, variety of grapes, way of fermentation and maceration. Color of white wine can be greenish, straw, golden and amber yellow color. If the white wine is older, it will feature golden yellow nuance which reminds of a darker color. If wine comes from a colder environment it will have rather lighter color than the one coming from the warmer areas due to quantity of pigment in the skin of grape berries. A glass of wine is 142 calories, like a large banana. One bottle of white wine contains 650 calories and can be compared to a large portion of caramel ice cream. In hot summer days, glass of well cooled white wine provides exceptional pleasure.
The Jović is proud of its unique wine of Vranac Potrkanjski as it comes from vineyards already some 50 years old, and makes important and recognizable feature of this winery. The Vranac 2017 is one of the golden line wines of the Jović Winery which features intense aroma of forest fruits where dominate aromas of blackberry and red currant, with balanced fruits and extraordinary juicy acidity which make this wine fresh and irresistible. The Vranac Potrkanjski wine is dry red wine with complex aroma of red fruits, primarily of cherry, wild cherry and matured plums, which is well harmonized with spicy tones. The Vranac Potrkajski wines mature 24 months in barrique barrows constructed from Serbian, French and Hungarian oak wood that provide it a gentle vanilla flavor. This wine best goes with dark meat and roasted lamb, beef, beef steak, goulash and various game and blue cheese. The Sauvignon wine of the Jović Winery is dry white wine of complex aromatic body which develop in a glass. It stars with flowery tones of camomile and pleasant fruity notes of vineyard peach and quince. The Sauvignon wine is very soft with gentle acidity and citrus-mineral end where grape fruit dominates. It goes well as aperitif wine with starters with smoked meat and ham, and excellent with river fish and sea food. The Cabernet Sauvignon 2017 wine belongs to the golden line of the Jovic Winery of very intense herbal-fruity note with citrus-mineral end which makes it irresistibly fresh and perfectly goes with starters of smoked meat, all kinds of game and cheese, as well as along fish specialties and sea food. The Dionizije Wine is the first premium Wine of the Jović Winery – coupage of Vranac and Cabernet Sauvignon which matures for 24 months in barrows mace of Serbian and French oak wood, and features deep flavors of berries, vanilla and dried plums. The Rose Potrkanjski Dionizije wine is dry and soft rose wine of gentle muscat aroma and sweet smell of roses. Its fresh and well balanced acids are harmoniously combines with fruity end with the flavor of strawberry that dominates. When well cooled, this Rose Potrkanjski Dionizije wine easily goes with many starters, roasted pork, dry meat and grilled meat. It is well when consumed with fruity desserts of strawberries. The Rizling Rajnski-Potrkanjski is dry white wine of light yellowish-stray color with greenish nuances and fruity-flowery character. This fresh wine of full body is adorned with moderate and well balances acids which make it very pleasant and soft. In this wine dominate aromas of green grapes, pear and peach. For real pleasure we recommend this Riesling wine with tasty fish soups, sea food, white meats, roasted beef, chicken and soft cow cheese or hard and semi-hard cheese. The Višnjica is special soft fruity wine produced from purposely grown original sort of cherry which provides relaxing enjoyment during the whole day thanks to its high concentration of aromatic and dry compounds along with fresh acidity. The Višnjica wine ferments in specific conditions and along with the applied wine technology. Time of picking up cherries is carefully chosen when sugar quantity and extracts are achieved, that provides drink of 13% of alcohol. The technology and production process of the Višnjica wine completely differs from the existing known technology of production of fruit wines with small percentage of alcohol, so its quality comes in utterly different final product. This wine is primarily aimed as drink for enjoyment, but as it is actually the fruit concentration, beneficial and curative influence to the human body can be assumed. Višnjica wine is excellent as the daily drink, as aperitif of digestive when matched with fruity sweets and chocolate cakes. The Višnjica wine features registered mark of the State intellectual property office, while the wines of Vranac Potkranjski, Rose Dionizije and the Rajnski Rizling feature geographic origin protected marks. The Jovic Winery was awarded with numerous prizes and awards, golden and silver medals in numerous international wine fairs, competitions and festivals.
