Jadovnik Mountain
Jadovnik mountain is situated in south-west Serbia, south-east from Prijepolje, 15 km west of Sjenica, at the edge of the Pester Plateau. Jadovnik Mountain is 12 km long, with the highest peak Katunić, 1734 meters high. Jadovnik Mountain is mostly plateau whose peak is covered with fragrant meadows and pastures on the average height of 1500 meters. Slopes of Jadovnik Mountain are covered with lush pine and beech forests, rich in wild animals…but still they provide premium conditions and opportunities for various challenging outdoor activities, hiking, mountaineering, nature exploration and nature-friendly expeditions….
On the vast plateau of Jadovnik Mountain there are endless pastures and meadows with scattered houses of Stranjani, Svicevici and Ticje Polje tiny villages and its summer cattle cottages. It seems that time had stopped when you get here. The magnificent waterfalls of the Sopotnica River are the biggest summer attraction. Jadovnik Mountain is very cold in winter with snow cover even 3 meters thick. Jadovnik Mountain is very attractive primarily to true hikers, adventurers and mountain-climbers. Wide forests are spread over the steep sides of Jadovnik Mountain towards the almost inaccessible Milesevka and Uvac Rivers whose sources come from the slopes of this gorgeous mountain. Along the south-western foothill beside Lim River there is the paved road connecting Prijepolje /Serbia/ and Bijelo Polje /Montenegro/ from where leads the road to Sjenica and Novi Pazar. Rudo-Polje is the vast plateau in the central part of Jadovnik Mountain where locals used to gather in past for traditional manifestations /as Bulls Competition/ and where football is played more often recently. Jadovnik Mountain has ultimate conditions for true relief spent along its thick healthy pine forests with magnificent viewing points.
Everything grown in the area of Jadovnik Mountain is truly and uniquely ecological. Buckwheat grown on Jadovnik Mountain features healthy and curative effects.
