While sailing by this type of the sail ship that was also used by the Perast sailors during the 17th and the 18th century, he established the maritime and merchant connections between the Adriatic ports and the Northern and Baltic seas in 1746. The „Leon Coronato“ sail ship was constructed in 1736 but got burnt by pirates in 1748. Petar Smekia was granted the title of Conte Veneto in 14 December 1748 by the acknowledgement of Peter Grimani.
