Duboki Potok Monastery

Duboki Potok Monastery is Orthodox Monastery of the Serbian Orthodox church located in the northern part of Kosovo and Metochia in Zubin Potok Municipality. The Duboki Potok Monastery is set close to the small hamlet of Pridvorica, between villages of Dobrasevina and Citluk. The monastery Church dedicated to the Entrance of the Holy Virgin into the temple of Duboki Potok Moonastery has been built on the hill overlooking the area. The Duboki Potok Monastery church was built in the 14th century, but looted and reconstructed several times during its history….It was also destructed in the recent time of Kosovo conflict and was again rebuilt… In the 19th century the Church of Duboki Potok Monastery of the Entrance of the Holy Virgin to the temple became the most important spiritual and sacral place of local Serbs of this part of north Kosovo and Metohija, and the mountains of Mokra Gora and Rogozna, and in the Valley of the Ibar River.

The church of Duboki Potok Monastery was enlarged in 1868 when the dormitory was added. The Monastery of Duboki Potok is the only one in Kosovo and Metochia that keeps old precious manuscripts and liturgy vessels : Gospels, liturgy books from the 14th and the 15th and the 16th centuries. The relics of St. Healers Cosma and Damian are kept in this monastery as well as the hand of Martyr Nikita who died in 372, whose hand is highly venerated and known as the Holy Hand. The icon of the John the Baptist from the 14th century is kept here in the Duboki Potok Monastery. The fist school in Ibar Kolasin was established in 1891 in the Dormitory of Duboki Potok Monastery. Nowadays monks take care of this spiritual place of worship.

The Archimandrite Romilo, +19.09.2021.
Born in 1973 in pious Jelic family in the village of Mioče /Rudo/, had fasted and prayed since the childhood. Completed the Seminary in Belgrade, left to monastery in 1993 and received tonsure in 1995 in Zociste Monastery on the Presentation of the Holy Virgin.  He was promoted the hieromonk in the Monastery of Holy Trinity in Musutiste, for the monastic feast of 1997. He was kidnapped along with monks of the Zociste Monastery in 1998, who were released on the day of Saint Procopius. A month later in 1998 he was promoted for the Abbott of the Monastery of Holy Healers of Zociste. In July of 1999 the monks were forced to escape to Prizren, from where they were evacuated and hidden in the Crna Reka Monastery, along with the holy relics they took. He was promoted the the Abbott of the Duboki Potok Monastery, on the day of Saint Basil of Ostrog in 2000. The Monastery was in pitiful state, so he started gradual reconstruction, by restoration of the Small Dormitory, and later the Large Dormitory was reconstructed. He restored the church iconostasis and the marble floor, and in 2013 the fresco decoration was completed, as well as the economic and other buildings. He restlessly strived to regain the spiritual restoration by regular performance of the Holy Litury, along with the material reconstruction he carried out. The Fr Vitalije sometimes used to say when joking:,,We keep the red, and black feasts, but also the green ones.” He was beloved by everyone, like the caring national mother. He never argued with anyone, nor he made any damage or anything bad. We never heard him denouncing or defaming anyone, although he knew what was going on…. And when he heard someone angry who clearly expressed angriness, then the Fr Romilo with childish innocence used to say: ,,Do not blame him, let God arrange this”. Due to his naivety and innosence and inoffensiveness he was beloved by everyone, so the news on his death was deeply painful and highly disturbing. He died as the immortal worker of the God’s Wineyard, so that we can say as the poet used to:’He wanted a lot, started a lot, the death disturbed him’. Everlasting memory of our good Romilo! /text written by his faithful friend who allowed takeover/
