Day 1 Belgrade
Arrival to Belgrade airport, welcome by professional guide and transfer to centrally located Belgrade hotel. Belgrade sightseeing : the National Theater, Parliament, Saint Sava Orthodox Cathedral, Kalemegdan Fortress, Republic Square, Knez Mihajla pedestrian-shopping zone... Welcome dinner at the Skadarlija bohemian quarter restaurant. Overnight
Day 2 Belgrade – Manasija Monastery – Ravanica Monastery – Jagodina
After breakfast drive along highway to Manasija Monastery /140km/, sightseeing. Continue via Senje to Ravanica Monastery /optional break at the Lisine waterfalls for refreshment or homemade lunch – grilled mountainous trout/. Sightseeing. Accommodation at the Hill Hotel in Jagodina. Overnight.
Day 3 Jagodina – Zica Monastery – Studenica Monastery
After breakfast drive to Kraljevo, with break for refreshment and tasty brunch /homemade gibanitza=cheese pie+zeljanica=spinach pie/ at the famous nicely appointed Winery in Zhupa wine region. Sightseeing of Zica Monastery. Continue along the Ibar River gorge to Studenica Monastery and tour of the UNESCO Medieval complex and the Treasury, UNESCO cultural site. Accommodation and monastic dinner with glass of red monastic wine in the Studenica Monastery /twin rooms with facilities/. Overnight.
Day 4 Konculj Monastery – SS Apostles Peter/Paul Church – Sopocani Monastery – Novi Pazar
After breakfast drive to Raska and tour of the St Nicholas Monastery in Konculj, presentation of embroidery techniques performed by nuns. Continue to Novi Pazar and tour of the SS Apostles Peter and Paul Church /UNESCO site, one of the oldest churches in the Balkans/. Optional tour of the Djurdjevi Stupovi Monastery. Drive on to Sopocani Monastery and visit the Holy Trinity church which houses wonderfully preserved frescoes that are considered the pinnacle of the Medieval art. Accommodation at the Stari ras hotel. Traditional dinner. Overnight.
Day 5 Novi Pazar – Pec Patriarchate complex – Visoki Decani Monastery -Prizren
After breakfast drive via Rozaje along breathtaking mountainous area of easternmost part of Montenegro to Pec. Tour of the Pec Patriarchate complex /UNESCO heritage site/. Continue to Visoki Decani Monastery and sightseeing of one of the most majestic Serbian medieval monasteries, housing wonderfully preserved frescoes. Accommodation in historical hotel in the old quarter of Prizren. Traditional dinner, overnight.
Day 6. Prizren
After breakfast tour of the Holy Mother of Ljevish Church /UNESCO heritage site/ and the Saint Savior Church on top of the Prizren Kalaja Fortress, dominating the whole area. Visit to the Holy Archangels Monastery, the burial endowment of Tsar Dusan. Optional visit to the filigree workshop for presentation of well-preserved techniques of jewellery manufacture. Overnight in Prizren hotel.
Day 7. Prizren – Shkoder /Albania/
After breakfast drive along the highway via the mountainous area of Albania to Shkoder. Tour of the Rozafa Fortress with impressive evidences of the former civilizations. Accommodation and traditional dinner at the Tradita and Geg Hotel.
Day 8. Shkoder – Ulcinj – Virpazar
After breakfast drive to Montenegro and tour of the impressive Ulcinj Fortress, which keeps remains of the rich historical past. Continue to Bar and optional tour of the Haj-Nehaj fortification which features the Church of Saint Demetrius from the 8th century, with 2 altars – Orthodox and Catholic, older than the fortification itself, surrounded with large walls with numerous loopholes and defensive towers. Continue to the Stari Bar historical complex for visit to one of the largest archaeological reserves in the Balkans, with numerous records of the past. Tour of the new Church dedicated to Saint John Vladimir in Bar, considered the most beautiful church of Montenegro. Accommodation at the luxury Eco Wine Tourist Resort in Virpazar, big traditional-fish dinner, wine tasting, overnight.
Day 9. Virpazar – Moracnik – Starcevo Gorica and Beska Monasteries – Podgorica
After breakfast full day tour of the Skadar Lake Monasteries and sacral places – Moracnik, Starceva Gorica and Beska Monasteries /boat ride included/. Drive to Podgorica and accommodation in centrally located hotel.
Day 10. Virpazar – Podgorica – Moraca Monastery – Podgorica
After breakfast tour of the Dajbabe Monastery which features unique cave church, and further visit to the Church of Saint George in Podgorica. Drive on to Moraca Monastery and sightseeing. Return to Podgorica hotel.
Day 11. Podgorica – Ostrog Monastery
After breakfast drive to Ostrog Monastery, one of the most frequented spiritual sites of the Balkans. Tour of the Lower and the Upper church which houses the holy relics of St Basil – Sveti Vasilije Ostroski, from where spreads magic panorama of the whole Zeta River Valley. Farewell dinner with folklore performance – the famous Montenegrin dances. Overnight.
Day 12. departure
After breakfast transfer either to Podgorica or Dubrovnik for departure flight back to Amsterdam. End of services.
